The Jared's History
Let me take you all the way back to summer of 2017. My neighbours Geoff and Sam were getting married at their family's home.
It was a beautiful party with a fully stocked bar and I was thirsty...
I approached the bartender and asked for a Perfect Bourbon Manhattan (my jam at the time).
It seemed all the necessary ingredients were there!
Bourbon? Check. Sweet and Dry Vermouth? Check. Bitters?
.... no bitters.
You can't have a PBM without bitters.
Since only seconds had transpired, I was still thirsty. Quickly gathering myself I pointed to some interesting ingredients.
"What's that orangey red stuff, good sir" I asked. "That's Aperol", replied the bartender. "Ok", I said - "let's get some in there with bourbon, and add some soda". He quickly mixed them together, on ice, and threw in an orange peel for effect.
It was an instant hit! I believe 4, yes 4 of us, were drinking this newly minted concoction all night long.
By the end of the evening I knew it needed a name. So I aptly named it after he who helped craft it -- Bartender Jared.
Irony aside, later that week I added the very ingredient that was missing that evening, and presto, a perfectly artisanal (and bespoke) creation was, er.. created. The Jared.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Bourbon (I recommend Blantons or Buffalo Trace)
- 1/2 ounce Aperol
- Soda (I recommend Lime Perrier)
- 2 dashes Bitters (Angustura or Lime if you're feelin' snazzy)
- Ice (2" cube ideal)
- Orange Peel for garnish
Feel free to get fancy and pour in a tumbler or just straight in a glass and stir. Enjoy!
Oh, and here's some screenshots of Insta stories!
