Home cinematographers of the past had it so easy. Sure, they may not have had all the fun filters and editing tools that live in our phones today, but distribution back in the day was a no-brainer. Shoot some footage of your toddler driving his PowerWheel car into the hedge, then show the VHS to whoever dared walk past your television set — targeted marketing in its purest form. Today, though, the distribution options for home video are downright overwhelming. At this point, there are dozens of places to drop your original film work. You could upload it directly to Facebook, create a TikTok, post it to LinkedIn, Tweet it, or make it into an Instagram Story. Or there’s the option that many of us do: upload your video to Youtube and simply share the link across all of your social platforms.
